For nearly a decade, John Wall and Bradley Beal formed one of the more dynamic backcourt in the NBA with the Washington Wizards. However, their union abruptly ended before the 2020-21 season when Wall got traded to the Houston Rockets.

Now, Beal is with the Phoenix Suns after the Wizards moved the shooting guard in a blockbuster trade. Beal now suited up next to superstars Kevin Durant and Devin Booker.

Meanwhile, Wall is a free agent as the NBA enters the third week of the 2023-24 regular season. Appearing on FanDuel TV, Wall expressed his desire to reunite with his “brother” with the Suns.

“Me and Brad are still brothers, we still talk a lot,” Wall said on Run It Back. “If I could join their team, for sure, I would love that.”

Wall hasn’t played in a game since Jan. 13 with the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers traded him back to the Rockets on Feb. 9 last season before Houston waived him.

With the Wizards, Wall was a five-time All-Star. He also won a Slam Dunk contest and was the cornerstone of the Wizards franchise. Wall and Beal reached the postseason four times together, advancing to the second round three times and coming a Game 7 loss away from reaching the Eastern Conference Finals.

However, their union halted when Wall suffered a torn Achilles during the 2018-19 season. The injury kept Wall off the court for nearly two full calendar years. He rehabbed the injury, and just before he was due to return to the Wizards at the start of the 2020-21 season, Washington traded him to Houston in a deal that included Russell Westbrook.

Wall seemed at home, averaging 20.6 points and 6.9 assists in 40 games. The following season, Houston paid Wall to sit as the Rockets focused on younger players. Ultimately, he negotiated his buyout and signed with the Clippers for last season.

Eventually, Wall got traded by the Clippers and once again replaced by Westbrook. Now, Wall sits outside of the league, hoping for an opportunity. In July, he hosted a workout for teams in Las Vegas. No deal materialized thus far.

The Suns have one of the better trios of star players in the NBA — Beal, Durant, and Booker. Yet, the team seemingly lacks depth. At 33, could John Wall be an added asset to play minutes as a reserve point guard?

John Wall headed to Italy to play in the EuroLeague? A report surfaced Wednesday by BasketNews that Wall, a five-time NBA All-Star, was in talks with Italian club Armani Milan. However, Wall ultimately responded, refuting the report on Twitter.

“Where Do Y’all Get Ur Info from? False News!!” Wall tweeted.

John Wall, 32, has been a free agent since February. After playing 34 games with the Los Angeles Clippers, Wall got traded back to the Houston Rockets as part of a three-team deal. The Rockets waived him shortly afterward.

Wall held a workout last month in Las Vegas for NBA teams to attend. The Boston Celtics and Portland Trailblazers were two of the multiple teams that reportedly watched Wall. Yet, no deal has come to fruition.

For ten seasons, Wall was the cornerstone of the Washington Wizards. He became Washington’s all-time leader in assists (5,282), and steals (976) and fourth in scoring with 10,879 points.

Wall led the Wizards to the second round of the NBA playoffs four times. But alongside Bradley Beal, the Wizards never could get over the hump. Wall’s career peaked in 2017 when he earned third-team All-NBA honors, averaging 23.1 points, 10.7 assists, and 2.0 steals while shooting 45.1% from the field — all career highs.

Unfortunately, Wall’s career stalled after he suffered various injuries, including a torn Achilles during the 2018-19 season. After sitting out the following season, Wall returned to the court in 2020-21 following his trade to Houston.

He averaged 20.6 points and 6.9 assists in 40 games before getting shut down for the season. The Rockets and Wall negotiated for him to sit out the 2021-22 season while the team headed into a youth movement. He reached a buyout agreement on the final year of his $170 million contract, which led to his signing with the Clippers.

In his prime, Wall stole the show with his insane highlights of passes, turnaround dunks, and animated reactions. However, now he’s played a total of 74 games since December 2018.

His NBA future is very much in the air. Playing overseas seems to be a viable option. In June, Wall was linked to an Australian NBL basketball team that he has minority ownership in. Yet, he refuted the report about him having talks with Armani Milan.

The NBA future of John Wall is questionable at 32 years old. Bouts with injuries in recent years have limited his play. This season ended with the former Washington Wizards star not on an NBA roster.

Now, the five-star All-Star is drawing interest overseas. According to Michael Randall of Code Sports Phoenix, the South Melbourne East Phoenix of the Australian NBL hopes to lure Wall. The club is looking for “an elite import point guard” and believes Wall fits the bill.

Interestingly enough, Wall has a minority stake in the club and has close ties to majority owner Romi Chaudhary.

John Wall was the franchise player for the Wizards for ten years after being selected as the 2010 No. 1 overall draft pick. In addition to his All-Star Game appearances, Wall made the All-Rookie Team, All-NBA, and All-Defensive Team.

His accolades earned him a supermax contract ($170 million over four years) following an impressive run during the 2016-17 season in which he led the Wizards to one game away from the Eastern Conference Finals. Unfortunately, Wall’s career derailed after a series of injuries highlighted by a ruptured Achilles during the 2018-19 season.

The injury kept him off the floor for two calendar years. Before he returned to the Wizards for the 2020-21 season, Wall got traded to the Houston Rockets in a package for Russell Westbrook. A viral video of Wall throwing up gang signs contributed to trade.

Wall averaged 19.0 points, 9.2 assists, and 1.7 steals in nine seasons with the Wizards. He is the franchise’s all-time leader in assists and steals and is fourth in scoring.

In his first season in Houston, Wall averaged 20.6 points, 6.9 assists, and 1.1 steals in 40 games. But injuries forced the Rockets to shut him down. The following year, Wall sat out the entire season after disagreeing with the Rockets’ management over his role with the team.

Eventually, the Rockets bought out his contract, allowing him to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers this season. Wall appeared in 34 games and averaged career lows of 11.4 points and 5.2 assists before the Clippers offloaded him in a trade back to the Rockets before the trade deadline. Houston once again bought him out and sent him to free agency.

The landscape of the NBA has altered. Point guards are expected to spot up for threes more often than dribble penetration. It’s a role Wall struggled to fit with the Clippers. Thus, his place in the NBA, as it stands, is questionable.

Will Wall test the waters in the NBA free agency? Or will he want to secure a chance to play and be a main draw Down Under? Wall has made his fair share of money, so money shouldn’t be an object. It comes down to if he still wants the thrill of playing basketball.

This season was supposed to be the return of John Wall. Instead, the five-time NBA All-Star and former Washington Wizards cornerstone is headed back on the market after being traded to the Houston Rockets.

The Los Angeles Clippers traded Wall back to the Rockets in a three-team trade that sent Eric Gordon to the Clippers and Luke Kennard to the Memphis Grizzlies. However, Wall’s second stint with the Rockets won’t be long.

According to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, Wall has been notified he will be waived by the Rockets.

Wall has looked to get his career back on track since rupturing his Achilles during the 2018-19 season while with the Wizards. The injury kept him off the court for two years. The Wizards traded Wall, and a first-round draft pick to the Rockets for Russell Westbrook before the 2020-21 season.

Wall averaged 20.6 points and 6.9 assists in 40 games that season with the Rockets. However, Houston paid him to sit out the 2021-22 season. Then the two sides reached a buyout agreement last July, freeing him to sign a two-year deal with the Clippers.

But Wall didn’t fit the Clippers’ scheme as a three-and-D guard. Wall, who has been used to dominating the ball, had to give way to the Clippers’ dynamic duo of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.

John Wall averaged 11.4 points and 5.2 assists while shooting 40.8% from the field and 30.3% from three in 34 games with the Clippers. An abdomen injury has kept him from playing in a game since Jan. 13.

Wall will be near the top of marquee players hitting the market after Thursday’s trade deadline. The list of midseason free agents expects to include Westbrook and Wall’s teammate with the Clippers, Reggie Jackson.

John Wall’s run with the Los Angeles Clippers may be over already. The Clippers are proactively trying to trade Wall and are considering buyout him out if the team cannot find a trade partner, according to Andrew Greif of the Los Angeles Times.

Wall signed a two-year, $13.3 million deal with the Clippers in July after the Houston Rockets bought out the final year of his four-year, $171 million super-max contract.

Initially, Wall seemed like an ideal fit. However, his fit with the Clippers is in question. The five-time All-Star is averaging 11.4 points and 5.2 assists in 22.2 minutes through 34 games. All are career lows for the former No. 1 overall pick.

His numbers are down due to the Clippers’ roster structure. The ball plays through stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. That makes it difficult for a third player to get touches.

Wall admitted as such to Greif, stating the team needs a different type of point guard — play defense and stand in the corner to shoot threes. Wall brought up Mario Chalmers, who played with the Miami Heat’s Big Three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh.

After being the No. 1 overall pick in 2010, John Wall spent ten years with the Washington Wizards. But injuries have derailed his career since 2018. The most significant injury, a ruptured Achilles kept him off the court for nearly two years.

The Wizards traded him to the Rockets just ahead of the 2020-21 season. Wall averaged over 20 points and 6.9 assists through 40 games with Houston. The Rockets and Wall mutually agreed for him to sit out the following season before deciding on a buyout in July.

The Clippers were the team Wall was going to rejuvenate his career. Unfortunately, Wall has been out since Jan. 13 with an abdominal injury. He’s seemingly lost his spot in the rotation in his absence. Now, he’s been made available for trades and could hit the free agent market if a deal can’t get done by the Feb. 9 trade deadline.

Five-time All-Star John Wall will have a new NBA home next season. Wall and the Houston Rockets reached a buyout agreement, shaving $6.5 million off his $47.4 million salary for the 2022-23 season, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

The move will make Wall a free agent after he clears waivers. However, his new home appears to be already set.

Wall plans to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers once he clears waivers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Other teams are still calling to pursue the 31-year old, but his intentions are set to sign with L.A.

Drafted as the No. 1 overall pick in 2010, Wall spent 10 seasons with the Washington Wizards. He became a cornerstone player, guiding the Wizards to four playoff appearances during a five-year stretch.

A ruptured Achilles in 2019 put him on the shelf for more than a year. Just as he was set to return for the 2020-21 season, the Wizards traded him and a protected first-round draft pick to Houston for Russell Westbrook. During his time with Washington, he averaged 19.0 points, 9.2 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 573 games.

In his first season with the Rockets, Wall averaged 20.6 points, 6.9 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 40 games. However, Houston and Wall reached an agreement for him not to play during the 2021-22 season, as he collected his $44.3 million salary.

Last week, Wall exercised his $47.4 million player option for the 2022-23 season. The prompted tent to reach a buyout agreement with the Rockets.

Now, he’ll join forces with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard under head coach Tyronn Lue. Leonard also didn’t play a game last season as he dealt with a partially torn ACL.

The Clippers are looking to bounce back from a disappointing season that ended in the play-in tournament with back-to-back losses to Minnesota and New Orleans.

Wednesday the Washington Wizards will host the Houston Rockets at Capital One Arena. It should be a joyous night for fans, who should be celebrating the homecoming of John Wall, the man Wizards fans cheered for nearly a decade.

Instead, Wall won’t even be at the game. He’s perfectly healthy, nearly two years removed from Achilles surgery.

Yet he won’t be in uniform thanks to a pre-season arrangement with the Rockets. Wall and the Rockets mutually agreed the five-time All-Star wouldn’t play for Houston this season, while both sides worked on finding a trade partner.

Unfortunately, there aren’t any teams willing to take on the $91.7 million still owed to Wall through the 2022-23 season. Understandably, neither Wall nor the Rockets are interested in a buyout.

The two sides met in November with hopes of hashing out a plan for Wall to return to the court after public criticism. However, Wall wants a guaranteed spot in the starting rotation, something the Rockets won’t agree to. Thus, Wall will continue to sit out the season.

The Rockets are more keen on allowing their young players to get starting minutes, including their young backcourt tandem of Kevin Porter Jr., and rookie Jalen Green.

Last season, Wall averaged 20.6 points and 6.9 assists in 40 games after being traded from the Wizards to Rockets. He faced the Wizards in Washington last February, scoring 29 points in a Rockets’ loss. However, there were no fans in attendance thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.

Nowadays, Wall has been seen in workout videos, staying in shape for his opportunity in case he is ever traded elsewhere or something changes with the Rockets’ stance.

Five-time All-Star guard John Wall and the Houston Rockets recently met and mutually agreed to work together on a trade, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Wall will report to training camp later this month. But, the plan is for him not to play for the Rockets this upcoming season.

Wall has two years and $91.7 million remaining on his current contract. That includes a $47.4 million player option for the 2022-23 season. However, there are no plans for a buyout.

The Rockets acquired John Wall along with a future protected first-round pick from the Washington Wizards in exchange for former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook. Westbrook has since been traded to the Los Angeles Lakers after just one season with the Wizards.

The idea at the time was to grant Westbrook his request to be traded, and pair Wall with disgruntled franchise cornerstone James Harden.

However, the addition of Wall wasn’t enough for Harden, who forced his way out in a trade to the Brooklyn Nets. Meanwhile, Wall was pushed to the forefront of a rebuilding team while returning to action from a torn Achilles injury he suffered in January 2019.

He averaged 20.6 points and 6.9 assists in 40 games last season. The Rockets shut him down the final month of the season with a hamstring injury. In the process, Houston got a further look at young guard Kevin Porter Jr. Then, this summer they drafted Jalen Green second overall in the NBA Draft.

The Rockets are set to turn over the keys of the franchise to Green with Porter and Christian Wood alongside him. Meanwhile, the 31-year old Wall will look to comb the market for a contender or better fit in need of a point guard with $44.3 million worth of tradable assets.

For John Wall the 2020-21 season was about him proving himself following a ruptured Achilles that sidelined him the previous season and half. In a lot of ways he did so. In others he didn’t.

Now his season is over. According to Shams Charania of the Athletic, Wall will miss the remainder of the season with a hamstring tweak.

Tim MacMahon of ESPN describes the injury as a Grade 2 hamstring strain. The recovery time is usually three weeks. However, the Rockets, who are 15-46, are eliminated from playoff contention. The team won’t rush Wall back with 11 games remaining on the season.

Wall spent 10 years as the cornerstone of the Washington Wizards before he was traded in December along with a protected first-round pick for Russell Westbrook. The deal at the time was a shock. He and the team seemed committed in his rehab to get back on the court during the two calendar years he was out with the Achilles injury.

Wall appeared in 40 games this season. He averaged 20.6 points, just 0.1 points less than what he averaged during his last season prior to the injury. He also averaged a career-low 6.9 assists which was more a byproduct of the Rockets’ rebuild and numerous injuries.

Additionally, Wall had career-lows with 40.4% shooting from the field. However, he had an uptick in his three-point shooting. He made a career-best two treys per game on 31.7% shooting beyond the arc.

Wall now will get a head start on his offseason and a chance to prepare for year two after such a major injury. Many notable star players have failed to return to their norm in the NBA after an Achilles injury. Only Dominique Wilkins was previously able to play at the same level before the injury.

Wall has flashed glimpses of his getting back to his old self. That included besting his former team the Wizards earlier this season. However, he did miss several games due swelling in his left knee which could require offseason surgery according to MacMahon.

The Rockets are in year one of a rebuild following the trade of James Harden. Thus, Wall’s first year in Houston quickly turned into a self-assessment for the five-time All-Star. His numbers show he can still play at a high level, but will need to work on his game, particularly his shooting, to adjust.

John Wall believes the Washington Wizards thought he was done following his ruptured Achilles that kept him out of action for two years. Wall rehabbed to get back on the floor to join Bradley Beal. But on the heels of his much anticipated return, Wall was traded to the Houston Rockets, along with a protected first-round pick, for Russell Westbrook.

“I just wish I would have known up front and not have to beat around the bush to figure things out. That’s just my motivation there. They thought I was done. Basically, that’s how I feel,” Wall told Chris Miller of NBC Sports Washington.

Rumors of the blockbuster trade surfaced just prior to the NBA Draft in November. That set off an array of emotions from Wizards fans. Wizards general manager Tommy Sheppard publicly denied the team was considering trading Wall. However, Sheppard refute proved to be untrue, as the trade was made official in December.

Wall inquired the powers that be when the rumors of a trade initially surfaced. He doesn’t understand why he wasn’t told the truth.

“Most importantly, all I really wanted from the start of all of it was just to be told the truth,” Wall said. “That’s the most important thing and what made it so hard for me to understand what was going on because I wasn’t told the truth. I understand it’s a business and things go on and people move on and you get traded, organizations in different ways.

“When I heard the rumors, I called and asked are these true or are these something not to worry about? From that day forward, all I heard was ‘no, those rumors aren’t true, don’t worry about it.’ In all reality, it was true,” Wall said.

For 10 years Wall was the face of the Wizards franchise. He built a lifelong relationship with the fans of Washington as the cornerstone. However, injuries halted the momentum he helped build with the team.

The Wizards evidently wanted to keep their plans under radar as much as possible despite the reports surfacing. But, Wall felt through all his contributions and what he meant to the franchise as a whole, he deserved to know the Wizards’ true intentions.
